On Wednesday, we had a lecture from Steve on the concept of 'faces'... do humans have faces, do animals have faces? The lecture sparked much discussion about what we look for in a face and what are the key elements of a face. During the afternoon workshop, in groups, we were asked to depict our thoughts from the lecture in pictorial form.
As a group we felt that the face was an important element of the body as it is the only are that is 'naked'. Myself, Emma and Nicola decided to concentrate on the eye as we felt it is the most common feature of the face among both humans and animals. The eye makes judgements but it also known as a "gateway to the soul" as eyes can not hide the true feelings of the person. We chose to use red in the main eye to disturb our ego's (an issue raised during the lecture), by contrasting that with green in the inner eye to represent envy and jealously we wanted to question what was human/animal?
I really enjoyed the practical element to the session as I feel we were able to connect more with what was talked about in the lecture and produce a creative response, which I feel is more relevant to my masters course.
